Sex and the City: "An American Girl in Paris (Part Deux)"

Comedy Series

About This Show

Sex and the City aired its final episode, "An American Girl in Paris: Part Deux," on February 22, 2004 on HBO. The characters we loved all had nice tie-ups for their storylines in the finale: Samantha is cancer free and embracing a serious relationship with Smith. Charlotte and Harry are adopting a little girl from China. Miranda shows her softer side and cares for her ailing mother-in-law. And last, but certainly not least, Carrie leaves Paris to return to her beloved New York City with her beloved Big.

Even after each main character has a tidy bow fastened upon her storyline, there's still one last gift that we get at the very end of the episode. We FINALLY learn Big's name! Showrunner Michael Patrick King revealed that he always knew that Carrie and Big would end up together, but he didn't know that he was going to reveal Big's real name until he started writing the episode. King told us it was one of those "writing moments" that he loved.

We've revisited Carrie and the gang in two feature films since the series ended, and King stated in a 2014 Entertainment Weekly article that he and Sarah Jessica Parker believe that a third movie may be a possibility because there's a "final chapter" yet to tell. So although we thought we said, "au revoir" to Sex and the City back in 2004, in retrospect it was really more of an, "à bientôt."
